Description

Brand name: Dovonex

Generic name: Calcipotriene

What is Calcipotriene and what is it used for:
Calcipotriene is a synthetic form of vitamin D that is used to treat psoriasis. It works by slowing down the growth of skin cells, reducing inflammation, and relieving itching and scaling associated with psoriasis.

How to use Calcipotriene:
Calcipotriene is applied topically to the affected skin areas once or twice daily, as directed by your doctor. Avoid getting Calcipotriene in your eyes, nose, or mouth. Do not apply to healthy skin or open wounds. Wash your hands thoroughly after applying Calcipotriene. It may take several weeks for the full benefits of the medication to be seen.

Possible side effects of Calcipotriene:
Calcipotriene may cause some side effects, including:

Burning, stinging, or itching at the application site
Skin irritation, redness, or dryness
Worsening of psoriasis symptoms
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects persist or worsen.

Precautions and warnings for Calcipotriene:
Before using Calcipotriene, inform your doctor if you have any medical conditions or allergies. Calcipotriene may interact with certain medications, including other topical medications or skin products.

Calcipotriene should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. It is unknown if Calcipotriene passes into breast milk, so it is important to consult your doctor before using Calcipotriene while breastfeeding.

Do not use Calcipotriene for longer than recommended or in higher doses than prescribed by your doctor. Overuse of Calcipotriene can cause skin irritation, hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the blood), or other serious adverse effects.

It is important to attend regular doctor appointments and report any new or worsening symptoms to your healthcare provider while using Calcipotriene.
