What is Omeprazole and what is it used for:
Omeprazole, sold under the brand name Prilosec, is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) medication that reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It is primarily used to treat conditions related to excess stomach acid production, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is also used in combination with antibiotics to treat Helicobacter pylori infection and to prevent stomach ulcers in people taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

How to take Omeprazole:
Omeprazole is usually taken orally, once daily before a meal. The dosage and duration of treatment will depend on the individual’s condition and response to treatment. It may take several days to feel the full effects of the medication. Do not crush, chew, or break the capsule. Swallow it whole with a glass of water. If you have difficulty swallowing the capsule, it may be opened and the contents sprinkled on applesauce or yogurt and swallowed immediately.
