Description

Brand name: Ranexa

Generic name: Ranolazine

What is Ranolazine and what is it used for:
Ranolazine, sold under the brand name Ranexa, is a medication used to treat chronic angina (chest pain or discomfort). It works by improving blood flow to the heart muscle and decreasing the heart’s need for oxygen. It is used in combination with other medications to help control symptoms of angina.

How to take Ranolazine:
Ranolazine is taken orally, usually twice daily, with or without food. The dosage and duration of treatment will depend on the individual’s condition and response to treatment. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets, as this may affect how the medication is released in the body.

Possible side effects of Ranolazine:
Ranolazine may cause some side effects, including:

Dizziness
Headache
Nausea
Constipation
Weakness
Ranexa may also cause an abnormal heart rhythm called QT prolongation. QT prolongation can lead to a serious (rarely fatal) irregular heartbeat. Seek medical attention immediately if you develop symptoms of QT prolongation, such as fast/irregular heartbeat or fainting.

Precautions and warnings for Ranolazine:
Before taking Ranolazine, inform your doctor if you have any medical conditions, such as liver or kidney disease, heart disease, or a history of QT prolongation. Ranolazine may interact with certain medications, including other medications that affect the heart’s electrical activity.

Ranolazine may also increase the risk of dizziness or lightheadedness, so caution should be used when driving or operating machinery.

Ranolazine is not recommended during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. It is not known if ranolazine passes into breast milk, so consult your doctor before taking Ranolazine while breastfeeding.

It is important to attend regular doctor appointments and report any new or worsening symptoms to your healthcare provider while taking Ranolazine. Ranexa (Ranolazine) is a prescription medication and should only be taken under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
