Route of Administration: Sublingual
Frequency: Twice daily
Common Uses: Saphris is used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in adults. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by a doctor.
How to Take: Place the tablet under the tongue and allow it to dissolve completely. Do not swallow the tablet whole or crush it. Avoid eating or drinking for at least 10 minutes after taking Saphris.
Warnings/Precautions:
- Saphris may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or impaired judgment. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Saphris affects you.
- Alcohol or other CNS depressants may increase the risk of side effects. Avoid using them while taking Saphris.
- Saphris may cause an increase in blood sugar levels. Diabetic patients should monitor their blood sugar levels closely.
- Saphris may cause tardive dyskinesia, a condition that causes involuntary movements of the face and body. Contact a doctor if you experience any abnormal movements.
- Saphris may cause neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), a rare but serious condition that can be fatal. Seek medical attention immediately if you experience symptoms such as fever, muscle stiffness, or confusion.

- Dry mouth
- Constipation
- Nausea
Serious Side Effects:
- Irregular or rapid heartbeat
- Seizures
- Difficulty breathing
- Severe allergic reaction (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue)
- High fever, sweating, confusion, and stiff muscles (signs of neuroleptic malignant syndrome)
- Unusual movements of the face or body (tardive dyskinesia)
