Serevent Diskus

Description

Serevent (generic name: salmeterol)

Dosage form: Inhalation aerosol

Strengths: 25 mcg per actuation

Route of Administration: Inhalation

Frequency: Usually 2 inhalations twice daily, at least 12 hours apart

Common side effects:

• Headache
• Throat irritation
• Tremor
• Nervousness
• Dizziness

Serious side effects:

• Chest pain
• Irregular heartbeat
• High blood pressure
• Worsening asthma symptoms
• Allergic reactions (such as hives, rash, swelling of the face, mouth, and tongue)
• Seizures

Note: Serevent should not be used to treat acute symptoms of asthma or bronchospasm. It should be used in combination with an inhaled corticosteroid for long-term maintenance treatment of asthma and should not be used as a rescue inhaler.
